yumitori-shiki 弓取式
The bow-twirling ceremony that closes each tournament day.
The yumitori-shiki is the bow-twirling ceremony that closes every tournament day. After the last bout, a chosen wrestler, usually from makushita or below, takes a bow from the referee and twirls it. The JSA traces it to the Edo period, when a winner was given a bow as a prize and celebrated with it.
