mawashi 廻し
The belt a wrestler fights and trains in.
The mawashi is the belt a wrestler fights and trains in. A sekitori's competition belt is heavy silk about 9 metres long, folded and wrapped four to seven times around the waist. Many winning techniques depend on gripping it. Sekitori fight in coloured silk and train in white cotton, while lower-division wrestlers wear black cotton for both.
