jūryō

The second division, and the lowest that's paid a salary.

Jūryō is the second division, with 28 wrestlers. It's the lowest division paid a salary, so reaching it makes a wrestler a sekitori. Jūryō wrestlers fight 15 bouts a tournament, the same as the top division. In Japan their bouts start around 3pm, an hour before makuuchi.

makuuchi
The top division: 42 wrestlers, from yokozuna down to the maegashira.
makushita
The third division, and the highest one that isn't salaried.
sekitori
A wrestler in the top two divisions, makuuchi and jūryō, who's paid a salary.
